Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 x64 editions require 2GB or RAM (at least as far as Microsoftt says). Therefore if you want more than 6GB allocated to VMware on such a host machine you host would now have < 0 bytes of RAM. Probably not a good idea. Not having tried this I don't know whether VMware WS would even accept such a configuration - probably not. If you used a 32-bit version of either OS you'd think you have some memory left for VMs - but not so 32-bit OS host can only recognize about 3.1GB. My advice - get more memory if your mobo permits .
